Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the app. For how-to questions see the user manual.
Using Struxt3D
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. Struxt3D runs in a modern web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari). Open the app and start a model; there is no sign-up.
Where is my model stored?
In your own browser. The app keeps your current model in the browser's local storage so it is there when you come back, and you can save it to a file on your computer with File › Save (Ctrl+S) and open it again later. Models are not uploaded to a server.
Does the analysis run on a server?
No. The finite element solver is compiled to WebAssembly and runs on your computer in a background worker. Speed depends on your device; typical template models solve in seconds.
Can I use it on a phone or tablet?
The app works on tablets and large phones, but modelling and reading results is much easier on a laptop or desktop with a mouse.
Can I model a structure that is not one of the templates?
Yes. Start a blank model and draw members, nodes, supports and loads yourself, or start from the closest template and edit it. See Editing the model.
Analysis and design
Which design codes are supported?
Six code families: Eurocode, AISC/ACI with ASCE 7, the Korean Design Standards (KDS), CSA with NBCC, AS/NZS, and NSCP 2015 (Philippines). Each sets the load combinations, live loads, wind, seismic spectrum, materials and resistance factors. See Design codes.
What kinds of analysis does it do?
Linear static analysis of every load case and combination, and response-spectrum seismic analysis from the structure's vibration modes. Members are beams, trusses or cables; slabs, walls, decks and rafts are shell plates. See How structural analysis works.
What does it design?
Steel, reinforced concrete and timber members; concrete slabs and plates including punching shear; shear walls; pad footings; composite steel beams with floor vibration; and steel connections (fin plates, end plates, base plates, gussets and splices).
What is the difference between Run analysis and Run design?
Run analysis (F5) solves the model and shows forces and deflections. Run design (F6) also checks every element to the code and, if automatic sizing is on, picks the lightest sections that pass. See Design and auto-sizing.
Can I see the calculations?
Yes. Generate a calculation report for the whole model or for one selected element; it shows the inputs, the forces for each combination and each check step by step with its clause. Reports export to PDF and Word. See Calculation reports.
Can I use the results for construction?
Struxt3D is built for quick, sound first answers: concept design, checking, and learning. Its rules are simplified versions of the codes with typical default values, and national annexes or local amendments can differ. A qualified engineer must check any design before it is built. See Accuracy and limitations.
Can I take the model to other software?
You can export tables as CSV and export the model to OpenSees as a .tcl or .py script. See Saving, opening and exporting.
Learning
I am a student. Where should I start?
Read How structural analysis works and Loads and load combinations, then follow How to design a steel beam or How to design a reinforced concrete beam with the app open beside you.
Will there be more tutorials?
Yes, tutorials are added regularly. The tutorials page always lists them all.
